Coming Soon – True Replica Cabinets

by George Metropoulos | November 24th, 2009 | 4 Comments »

Plexi Replicas is proud to announce the imminent arrival of ’68 era Metropoulos True Replica Cabinets. Completed prototypes are expected in December 2009 and we are truly excited about the cabinets and the intense process we used to create such an exact replica. We took original 1968 slant and straight cabs, disassembled them, and micro-metered every piece individually to create full 3D CAD models accurate to .001 inches.

I went to great lengths to exactly reproduce my set of original cabinets. The metal parts were scanned and custom fabricated, all of the little irregularities of the original were measured and perfectly reproduced by CNC, we spared no effort and no expense to make a True Replica Cabinet. Find out the full details on our cabinet page.

Premier Guitar Podcast with George

Adam Moore of Premier Guitar interviewed George Metropoulos about his vintage Marshall plexi replicas. Listen to the 13 minute podcast below which covers George’s obsession with non-master volume Marshall amps. From losing a 1973 100 watt Marsall which was stolen at a gig in the mid-90′s, up to today’s ‘warts and all’ replicas of vintage plexis, find out what Metropoulos Amplification is all about.

“The plexi replicas, the Metropoulos Amplification moniker stuff, that’s my own builds, that’s me sourcing NOS parts, scouring eBay for old ceramic disc caps…”

Premier Guitar Review

The Premier Guitar Magazine article featuring our amp has been published… it’s early but it’s amazing! They reviewed the Metropoulos Amplification GPM 45 against a vintage 1965 Marshall, a MetroAmp kit, and several other JTM 45 style amps. Here’s what they thought of our GPM 45: “Of all the amps in the roundup, this amp sounded the most like our ’65.” What more can you ask for? Read more »

MetroAmp and Metropoulos Amplification

by George Metropoulos | April 24th, 2009 | 3 Comments »

With the opening of PlexiReplicas.com, the time has come to make the distinction between MetroAmp and Metropoulos Amplification more clear. MetroAmp comprises amplifier kit building and tech support, with the forum and wiki knowledgebases, and the MetroAmp nameplate for kit or staff built plexis. Metropoulos Amplification represents the hand-built plexi replicas made by George Metropoulos himself, using exclusive parts, individual component testing and selection – these amplifers carry the Metropoulos Amplification badge.
